Travel blog: Ibadan trip

Image
As part of the activities slated for the 2022 AMCOS week, a field trip to Ibadan was marked as the third event for the week. It was a trip to Ibadan to see the first TV station in Nigeria ( however unsuccessful) and to see the oldest privately owned newspaper publisher in the country, African Newspapers of Nigeria LTD (Nigerian Tribune).  This is a detailed report on the activities that went on that day, from pictures to details on the tours and the experts we spoke to. Leaving school:  We met at the front of the main faculty building by 7:30 am on a chilly Wednesday morning to assemble ourselves into two 17-seater omnibuses and a headcount by our staff advisor; Mr. Tosin Adesile.   Having taken the necessary instructions that ought to guide us during the trip we took off from school with both buses. Leaving Illara-Mokin to Ibadan required us to pass the following towns in the 3hr journey, Ikeji, Erin Ijesha, Ilesa, Ikire & Ode.  Arriving at Ibadan:  The trip to Ibadan was uniq

Parallel society

Image
This is the first time I'm writing in a long time. I recently discovered I write like I have ADHD. Funny thing right? According to the study, I write like I'm having a conversation... Low-key it's true, I write like I'm talking to the text. That aside, I'm writing about the parallel society we live in. Where everything is set into two parts. It always ends up being "for" or "against" as the only stands you can take. Where if you're not in agreement with one side of the coin, by default you're on the other side. Nobody can be on the fence or on another coin. Every other coin is considered inferior to the two popular ones. Example; • if you're not Christian you're Muslim (all other religions are inferior) • if you're with God you're with the devil • if you're not good, you're evil • if you're not APC you're PDP • if you're not wizkid you're Davido • if you're no art you're science (killed of

What Are the 5 Levels of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs?

Image
Maslow's theory presents his hierarchy of needs in a pyramid shape, with basic needs at the bottom of the pyramid and more high-level, intangible needs at the top. A person can only move on to addressing the higher-level needs when their basic needs are adequately fulfilled. Physiological needs: The first of the id-driven lower needs on Maslow's hierarchy are physiological needs. These most basic human survival needs include food and water, sufficient rest, clothing and shelter, overall health, and reproduction. Maslow states that these basic physiological needs must be addressed before humans move on to the next level of fulfillment. Safety needs : Next among the lower-level needs is safety. Safety needs include protection from violence and theft, emotional stability and well-being, health security, and financial security. Love and belonging needs: The social needs on the third level of Maslow’s hierarchy relate to human interaction and are the last of the so-called lower n

What's my Destiny

Image
"The Lord has set in our hearts what we are to become in our life, Jeremiah 1:5 KJV Before I formed thee in the belly a I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified b thee, and I ordained c thee a prophet unto the nations: that was the lord speaking to Jeremiah telling him about his destiny" I have heard this preaching a ton of times in the two decades I've spent on planet earth, but I still battle with what my destiny is, Is it a an unnatural element deposited in me before birth or a road I must find after birth that is tailored for me. If it's the latter, then how do I discover what that deposit is, how do I access what I know nothing about. If it's the former, how do I find out the path, and what would keep me on it. To be honest, I'm probably this lost because I haven't heard from God, maybe I have but I use my intuition and instincts more. It has also saved me from a lot of stress (Insert laughing memes). Maybe that's m

Open Mindedness

Being open-minded can be really tough sometimes. Most of us are brought up with a set of beliefs and values and, throughout our lives, tend to surround ourselves with people who share the same values and beliefs. Therefore, it can be difficult when we're faced with ideas that challenge our own and, though we may wish to be open-minded, we may struggle with the act of it from time to time .  Though it can be tough to do sometimes, I've always found that when I open my mind, I've reaped a lot of rewarding benefits. There is much to be gained from opening the door to your mind and letting new ideas and beliefs come in. Here are just a few of the benefits I've uncovered when I've taken the time to view the world around me with an open mind...  BENEFITS OF BEING OPEN MINDED • Experiencing changes.  Opening up your mind to new ideas allows you to the opportunity to change what you think and how you view the world. Now, this doesn't mean you necessarily will change y

Toxic Feminism

Image
1999 movie The Matrix, in which protagonist Neo is presented with a choice between two pills: one red, one blue. If he takes the blue pill, he continues to live in an illusory world in a state of blissful ignorance. If he takes the red pill, however, he will shed this mantle of ignorance and the truth will be revealed to him. 'feminism' 'radical feminism' Feminism is a range of social movements, political movements, and ideologies that aim to define, establish, and achieve the political, economic, personal, and social equality of the sexes. ... Changes in dress and acceptable physical activity have often been part of feminist movements. Recently , I was browsing through the comment threads on my twitter feed and began to see a string of comments which bore all of the hallmark characteristics of the usual Toxic Masculinity that feminists are accustomed to. Angry, aggressive, hostile, confused, selfish, emotionally repressed to the point where every interaction

Online stores.

Image
There are 3 annoying things that Nigerian online stores do, I see it everyday but I just cringe in anger . 1. "DM for price" like you don't have to say this everytime you put on an ad for a product you're selling...like are you counting the number of people who enter your DM's, it doesn't make business sense. I've also noticed that they then give outrageous prices, like really outrageous prices. I believe they do this because they want to sell at a different price to you, based on your IG account, just like market people price you according to your car 😂. 2. "Outrageous prices" this is the most annoying I've seen, because some people just assume that because they are selling on IG and Twitter and WhatsApp, they can charge what ever they feel, they forget I can just stroll to ABA or Balogun to get the same thing. It's those that sell clothes that do this alot. 10k for 5k shirt then you hear minus delivery. 😂😂, you
